The Montreal Canadiens are a proud hockey organization with a seemingly endless list of iconic hockey legends as a slice of their history. I can only imagine what the likes of Jean Believeau, Ken Dryden or even Patrick Roy think of Carey Price and his embarrassing behavior.
I’m so tired of seeing Carey Price on the verge of crying and wallowing in self pity during post game interviews. Yes, Price is young, but he’s also supposed to act like a professional.

Carey Price: Not-so-classy.
It’s pathetic
Carey: if you don’t have a strong game, don’t take to the media to plead your case. In fact, stop concentrating on interviews and start focusing on hockey and the reason you didn’t play well.
On the surface, it seems Price is more concerned with how the Montreal Canadiens faithful feel about him as a person, rather than his actual performance.
Athletes should display a sense confidence and humbleness. Think of Jarome Iginla or even Daniel Alfredsson. Those guys don’t do the ‘vulnerable and fragile thing’ reminiscent of a John Mayer ballad designed to melt the hearts of 16 year old girls. Price seems to truly excel at this.
Not exactly a role model example for kids around the world…
I was especially disappointed with Price’s actions (or attention seeking) following the 7-1 blowout against the Vancouver Canucks last week. So his return to Vancouver was a disaster. Price didn’t play well and his teammates were probably worse. Price decides the appropriate reaction would be to punch a hole in the wall next to his locker stall and scrape up his hand in the process. Ingenious.
Bruised knuckles
Sorry, didn’t we get that out of our system in high school? Sitting in your locker stall saying “Yeah, I punched a wall in frustration” is a great way to remind fans how smart a decision it was to buy a jersey with your name on it. Pause Nat. And showing your bruised knuckles to the media cameras while pulling the ‘I don’t want to talk about it (but if you ask, I’ll tell you all a story that will rival anything you can make up yourselves)’ schtick screams class and maturity, too.
Carey, it’s time to grow up. Start acting like the privileged professional hockey player you are. The sulking-sappy interviews embarrass you, the legendary Montreal Canadiens organization and hockey in general. You can and should do better.
Stay classy, Carey Price.

I only sort of agree.
Punching a wall isn’t a big deal in my eyes. Lots of greats have thrown tantrums in anger, and in a lot of ways it shows that the frustration is boiling over and that they expect more from themselves and from the team.
With that said, he does need to stop being a media darling. He never should’ve been a little kid about punching a wall. It did seem like he was showing it off a little bit.
Frankly, I don’t care that he punched the wall… its that he’s so obviously looking to talk about it afterwards.
Its not like his teammates can rally around this. If I were Gainey or Martin, I’d tell him to stop making himself available to the media for the next 2-3 months.
If Bob Gainey is as much of a genius as people seem to think he is, he’ll resign Price to a two-way contract, since he’s an RFA after this season. Personaly, I think some time in the AHL would be very good for the development of Carey Price.
He does need to grow up but at the same time he’s kinda of excused. He got thrown into the fire way too early and didn’t get a chance to mature enough. Plus the Habs fans are ruthless and that look on his Dad’s face in the Nucks game made me feel really bad for him
He might need to grow up but the media *cough TSN cough* needs to stop emphasizing every meltdown he has
I caught that shot of Carey’s dad too. He didn’t look happy, but you got the sense he’s embarrassed for Price – who made a huge deal about playing in his hometown. Most players aren’t that outspoken about their first games in hometowns.
Yes, he was thrown into the fire, but that’s no excuse to act out in public. I’m a big believer in these types of things happening behind closed doors.
Yeah, maybe TSN could back off, but conversely, Price should realize they are watching his every move and take the higher road.
