The Heat is on… to get out of town???

Wow. That’s one way to take news away from the Stanley Cup in a city like Ottawa.
So Dany Heatley wants out? According to various reports (ESPN, TSN), Heatley has requested a move from Ottawa. Why? We’re not sure.
But rather than look at the why, we here at stayclassy are going to look at where?
There are plenty of teams across this fair league that would love a shot at a Dany Heatley. Let’s be honest, the guy can put up some numbers. So who wants him? Better yet, who can afford him.
Montreal would seem like a team that can take on a Dany Heatley sized contract. With the number of free agents they have at the end of this year, they have the cap room to take his contract. But I suspect Heater might pull the plug on this move. To leave one media hotbed to a bilingual media hotbed would be too much. And that might be one of the reasons he wants out anyways.
San Jose might be a candidate. Cheechoo has been rumoured in the past, and they’re probably getting tired of Joe Thornton over there. Would Ottawa make the move for Thornton. Probably not (see our Jason Spezza vs. Joe Thornton comparison), but they might be willing to take on Cheechoo.
How about the Los Angeles Kings? Lombardi has a wealth of young talent in L.A. right now, and he’s got some cap room to work with too. Who would he send over in return? Hard to say, but it could be an Anze Kopitar to provide the scoring touch Ottawa will miss.
There’s also the possiblity of draft talent, prospects and AHLers. Ottawa hasn’t officially said they’re rebuilding, but if the rumours about Heatley are true, this is a great opportunity to dump some salary and start building from within. This may also free up some space for a couple different free agent signings (ahem Jay Bouwmeester, we’re really not that bad).
So stay classy Heatley. Whatever we did to wrong you, we’re sorry.

Besides, I’m not sure Bryan Murray would make a trade like this to a division rival.

Perhaps Heater wants to join the Toronto Blue Jays and help them out?
